Entry One | Jesse Miller.

Hey, I’m Jesse. It’s been a journey getting to this website and then to this blog. Probably been putting it off for 5 years or so. It had to be the best, but now I know it is all about starting the process.

Let’s get to it.

I was born on Vancouver Island and have called this place home for over 25 years. I got so lucky with where I was born. I get to live in a place where the sea meets the mountains and the rivers criss cross like lace. I have travelled to 18 countries in my life and this place just never seems to get old. I live in Victoria, BC, but was born in Nanaimo, BC.

I have been shooting for nearly a decade now. However, after nearly ten years of work, I felt it was time to start sharing my vision of the world with you, the audience.

So what journey are we going on together? Well I haven’t quite decided yet. Though I can tell you this, it will be exciting and with a lot of side tangents and quests.

However, I have to begin with the quote that changed my life and set me on the trajectory I am currently on.

To see the world, things dangerous to come to, to see behind walls, draw closer, to find each other and to feel. That is the purpose of life.”
― James Thurber
— The Secret Life of Walter Mitty.

I can’t think of a better way of living life. This quote spoke to me in a way that said '“go see and experience it all.” I first saw this quote in The Secret Life of Walter Mitty in high school. At first I thought it was pretty cheesy, but after screening it, I sat and thought on it: “To see the world, things dangerous to come to…” What a wonderful way of living. I think nowadays we get caught up in what others are up to and how can we do like the rest. Keeping up with the Jones’s as they say. But let me ask you this: when was the last time you felt alive? That feeling of being out there and doing it differently? I spent most of my adult life trying to squeeze into boxes that didn’t fit just from a look without trying. An obsession to be liked and wanted by others. I mean don’t get me wrong, I yearn to be in a community and to feel safe among peers. Though, I do believe one has to sit in the valley’s of life before that can happen.

To see the world meant to do it differently. To be unapologetically myself in a world not to fond of different. It took me up until I was 25 to make this mental switch. I still don’t quite know where I am heading, but I know it will be better than from where I was.

And so, I am Jesse, a guy from Vancouver Island trying to reveal and understand himself, climb mountains, do it different, and make a world for myself in which I feel at home.

What a way to start this journey. Let’s see what happens.

Kindness & Action,

Jesse
